Main Purpose/Scope:

Reporting to the Food Services Supervisor and/or Manager, Food Service staff are responsible for preparing the dining room for meal service, food preparation, serving meals in a professional and pleasant manner, and cleaning up after meals.

Key Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Follow provincial food sanitation and hygiene standards in the performance of all job tasks
  • Prepare dining room for meal service and set tables
  • Serve meals to residents and guests
  • Clean dining room after each meal, including floor
  • Assist in kitchen duties, including dishwashing as required
  • Maintain kitchenettes as required
  • Assist Cook staff with food preparation as required
  • Assist with the Medication Assistance Program as required
  • Respond to emergency calls as required
  • Complete necessary documentation as required

 Job Specifications:


  • WHMIS training
  • Provincial certification in food safety and hygiene


  • Experience working with seniors and/or serving food considered an asset


  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in written and spoken English
  • Ability to work effectively independently or within a team
  • A flexible, willing, and positive attitude
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality
  • Strong customer service focus
  • Above average listening skills
  • High safety and hygiene standards
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills; ability to deal with seniors and co-workers in a courteous and respectful manner
  • Confident in making quick decisions in emergency situations


  • Follow a shift rotation schedule including days, evenings, nights, and weekends
  • Complete work-related training as required
  • Support and adhere to all current and future Foundation policies and procedures
  • Support and adhere to all federal and provincial legislation as it applies to the Foundation including, but not limited to, Alberta Housing Act, Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy, Protection for Persons in Care Act, Occupational Health and Safety, and WHMIS
  • Uphold all applicable standards including, but not limited to, Supportive Living Accommodation Standards and Continuing Care Health Service Standards
  • Participate in regularly scheduled staff meetings
  • Ensure compliance with dress and grooming policy to project and maintain a professional image
  • Mobility to work in multi-storey building and physical stamina to occasionally lift and carry up to 25 kg.

Specific Requirements:

  • Current satisfactory Criminal Record Check
  • First Aid certification may be required
